Letting Go of Control in 2022
“You must learn to let go. Release the stress. You were never in control anyway.” ~Steve Maraboli
Have you ever noticed that things go much more smoothly when you give up control? When you simply allow things to happen, instead of making them happen?
I’ve noticed that I tend to use my energy trying to plan, predict, and prevent things that I cannot possibly plan, predict, or prevent. It’s utterly exhausting.
Control is rooted in fear. It’s a result of being attached to a specific outcome. An outcome we are positive is best for us.
I’ve decided that 2022 is the year I simply let go of control. Simply? No, it’s really not that simple for me. It takes work. It takes trust. Trust that I am going to be okay no matter what circumstances come my way. Trust that I don’t need to micromanage my universe.
By doing so, it opens to all kinds of wonderful possibilities that aren’t there when I’ve become attached to one correct path.
I’ve noticed that when I try to control the outcome, I have absolutely no concentration, my memory becomes poor, and I’m no longer living in the present moment. But when I practice surrendering, I feel so much more peaceful, and calm. I breathe in deeply and stay present in the moment. When I attempt to control things, I actually feel less in control. When I micro-manage and obsess over everything, I put a roadblock in my way.
To let go of control, we must surrender. We must stop fighting ourselves. We must stop fighting Letting go of control is not about inaction. It’s about taking action from that place of surrender. There is no effort. It’s as simple as breathing and repeating the words: Let go. Trust. There is no effort necessary. The trust will get you to where you need to be.
Be receptive. Allow things to happen. Believe that you are supported.
Just let go and allow yourself to be carried through. Peaceful, yet focused energy. Practice holding your intentions of what you want, but don’t force it. Energy is magic.
We are all works in progress, but when we allow it to happen instead of forcing it to happen, the outcome is so much more peaceful and relaxed.
I’ve noticed in the first 10 days of 2022, that by surrendering control, I feel less exhausted. I am working on trusting that everything in my life is happening for my highest and best. It takes so much less energy.
I think that once we realize that we cannot control external events, our energies can be placed where they are needed most. We can focus on the things we do have control over: Our responses. Our mindset. Our attitude. Our outlook. When we surrender and trust, we are able to increase confidence in ourselves. This leads to improving our physical and emotional health.
I’ve noticed that I feel freer. I’ve also observed that by letting
go of what I cannot control, doors have been opened to some pretty exciting possibilities that I was unable to envision two weeks ago.
Think of it as your own personal growth. Working through a situation, pushing through your comfort zone, embracing your emotions – and surrendering control to allow all of the possibilities. Life is magical, if we just allow the magic into our lives.
