Have you ever questioned the purpose of your life?

May 30, 2018

Have you ever wondered about life? Have you ever questioned the purpose of your life?

I don’t know what you believe in, but as for me – I think we are born to evolve.

We dream when we are asleep. We temporarily leave our bodies and wander around in the astral plane. Some dreams turn into predictions. In others, the future is seen. Sometimes, the same people repeatedly appear, and every now and again we are lucky enough to see our departed loved ones in our dreams.

All of this happens because our souls possess our physical bodies. So, now you ask – why has my soul decided to come here, as this body, with these people who surround me, to do this physical life?

We come to the physical plane to experience things. Not everything is good or bad, but a mix of a little bit of everything. We come to this world to try new talents – to experience new places, new things – to have relationships with people, platonic or romantic. Energy never dies. Energy must transform. It would be no fun to be eternally wandering around this world as the same person – not growing – not changing – not transforming.

We ascend or descend according to what we do or don’t do in our lives. Every single thing we do helps us to transform – to evolve. We simply do the best we can –  following our passions, and hopefully leading us to the right people – to the right places – and so on and so forth. On the other hand, we can ignore everything, too. After all, we all have free will to live our lives as we want. But we are all here to experience things.

In order to live our lives to the fullest we can choose to lead a spiritual life. To journey with our free will, transforming into the people we want to be.

Spiritualism and Spirituality are two very similar words, but very different as definitions. The only word they have in common is “spirit.” Spiritualism is the Science, Philosophy, and Religion of continuous life, based upon the demonstrated fact of communication, by means of mediumship, with those who live in the Spirit World. On the other hand, spirituality is not a product of religion. It is the process of transformation caused by a religion or experience for spiritual, mental, and emotional growth.

Spirituality allows us to discover our inner self – our inner spirit – which is part of the Divine. It is the measure of how willing we are to allow the Divine – the Infinite Intelligence – a power much greater than ourselves – to enter our lives and to guide us along our way. Spirituality exists within the mind of a person. It is a condition – a state of mind – that is achieved after long periods of attempts and trials.

As Spiritualist’s we believe that the Divine is expressed through all Nature. It is a very personal experience to each one of us.

Spirituality is a path that leads a person to know the reason of his existence – the values and moralities with which each person lives by.

Everyone has a different definition of spirituality. But it is not the same thing as asking somebody to define a word like bicycle or the moon and the stars.

We cannot force spirituality upon ourselves. When we finally realize how routine our fast-paced lifestyles, work habits, and private lives have become, our conscious hits us with a question – What is the purpose of my life?

What is the purpose of my life? Most of us work very hard to find meaning to our existence – what the purpose of our life is. We turn to others for inspiration – we turn to ourselves for guidance – in hopes of finding and regaining our spirit.

Spirituality is a beautiful and rewarding journey – but it takes time and a lot of patience. If we rush it, we can only experience a spiritual bypassing – an experience where certain actions are performed and habits improved. As a result, we become spiritual without being spiritual.

Spirituality is a distinct characteristic of a person. Everyone gets aspired from different teachings. To lead a spiritual life, one must look for the wisdom that mirrors his heart and satisfies his own self. A person in search of truth and the meaning of life will be the one to gain enlightenment. It doesn’t come to one who does not seek it. Spirituality changes a person’s view of life.

Spirituality is not –

It is not about allowing ourselves to be less forgiving of ourselves and more forgiving of others. It is not about becoming self-avowing and critical of ourselves, while accepting and tolerating others. It is not about becoming indecisive about our own course of actions while having the ability to be wise and helpful to others.

Every single one of these traits are limiting and destructive. We must work on gaining the ability to experience unconditional love, kindness, and compassion for ourselves.

No one can determine another’s level of spirituality. It’s an innate characteristic which cannot be measured. A person who is spiritually enriched lives his life meaningfully, helping those he can. Goodness comes to those who are patient. Goodness comes to those that always strive to better themselves. A spiritually aware person’s words, thoughts, and behavior are always in harmony.

Many speak these words – spirituality, intention, highest potential, higher self, purpose, attraction, vibration – as if they were eye candy. We can say, “My intention is to raise my vibration to the level of my highest self, so I can reach the goal of my highest potential and finally live my purpose and attract an amazing life.”

This sounds good, but what does this phrase mean exactly? Undefined spiritual jargon is poetry, at best – and manipulation and control, at worst.

Spirituality and spiritual practices help us to develop our true being, our true self. There are various spiritual works and practices –meditation, yoga, spiritual healing – that will help one to connect to one’s inner energy and ultimately to connect with the Higher Energy – the Infinite Intelligence.

Even though we may not consciously leave room for the Divine – know that the Divine is in each one of us. Even if it means shaking our entire foundation of who we think we are, that we lose all sense of control and don’t know which way is up. Sometimes it takes a life shattering crisis to shake us up to allow the Divine to expand in each one of us.

Spirituality allows us to better navigate our lives so that our journey isn’t quite so bumpy. When we behave in ways that are truly spiritual, there are fewer struggles and less suffering. We can ride the waves of crisis when we surrender and allow the Divine to carry us. Spirituality is not about being gluten free, wearing beautiful clothes, doing vinyasas, chanting mantras, going to church, self-help seminars, being vegan or reading self-help books. These things may add to our happiness, helping us to grow as individuals, but they do not equate to living a life of spirituality.

Spirituality is a measure of how loving we are – of how unconditionally accepting we are toward ourselves and others. It is a living practice. We don’t need to travel to India or Bali to find our spirituality. It is right in front of us. It is everywhere we go, even though we cannot see it. Spirituality cannot be bought. It is in every person we meet. In every breath we take. It cannot be found in books. None of these things even matter if we are not being loving.

Love can only be found within us. We may think we need to go to these places and do all these things, but it is simply not out there – it is inside you – inside each one of us. The love is in the choices each of you make. Period.

Being love is being a living thing. It’s a moment-to-moment practice. We will be refining it and trying to get it right for the rest of our lives. But when we begin to understand what spirituality is – and begin to shift our life toward unconditional love – we will begin to see ourselves in a different light. We all have a gift to give to the world. We are teachers and students – givers and receivers. We are all unique. We deserve to be celebrated. When we go one step deeper, we begin to see that we are the Divine’s gift to the world. Each one of us.

Spiritualism and Spirituality are two different worlds. While Spiritualism concentrates on the afterlife – the Spirit World – spirituality concentrates on the person as a whole living being on four different planes – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Spirituality is a process of personal transformation.

Here is a meditation that you can do daily to help you with your process:

Sit comfortably, in any position in a calm and quiet place.

Breath comfortably, without focusing on the breath. Allow your eyes to close.

Once you feel your body is at ease, start focusing on your heart area, feeling how it feels with each breath.

If words come to your mind, be mindful of them (do not entertain them or be swept away with them. If they force you to, smile towards them, and gently bring your focus back to your heart). Remain in that state for a few moments (5 min).

Visualize that your heart is glowing, slowly radiating energy outwards in circles, imagining the well-being of your loved ones (3 min).

Come back to yourself, and focus on your heart again.

Slowly become aware of your surroundings. Feel the chair you are sitting in. Move your feet and hands. Stretch. Open your eyes when you are ready.

I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.”
