l'chaim - to life

March 23, 2018

Life is one big journey … Life is years of self-discovery … the time for constant learning, change and growth.

March 29 will mark the anniversary of my mom’s transition to Summerland (the Spirit World). I was raised in a Jewish family. In Judaism, death is not a tragedy, even when it occurs early in life or through unfortunate circumstances. Death is a natural process. Our deaths, like our lives, have meaning and are all part of G-d's plan. In addition, we have a firm belief in an afterlife, a world to come, where those who have lived a worthy life will be rewarded.

During the first year of losing my Mom, her passing was very difficult. My head was filled with lots of questions of why she was taken from us so soon. Soon after her passing, I realized that she never really left us. Her body left us, but her energy is still very much all around us, all of the time. She is still protecting us, watching over us, guiding us, and nurturing us. She led a wonderful, fulfilling life, and is now helping others in need, and the ones she loves so dearly.

This poem, written by Mary Frye, comes to mind, when I think about my mom:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there – I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints in snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
As you awake with morning's hush
I am the swift-up-lifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there – I did not die.

Sometimes, as I am sitting in my apartment or hiking in the woods, I can smell her perfume. If I sit very quietly, I can hear her speak to me. Sometimes, I feel her brush her hand against mine. I even feel her lips kissing my cheek. I speak to her with ease and converse with her on a daily basis, knowing that she is always walking beside me.

My mom taught me how to love, and how to allow myself to be loved. Through my mom, I learned to knock down the walls surrounding my heart, and to allow love in. She always taught me to be the best ME I could be, and to never give up on myself. She taught me to have faith. I remember all of her teachings. She is still teaching me – and I am still listening and learning so that I can be everything that I can possible be.

My journey into Spiritualism moved to the forefront during her transition. Spiritualism is the Science, Philosophy, and Religion of continuous life, based upon the demonstrated fact of communication, by means of mediumship, with those who live in the Spirit World. Spiritualism is a Science because it investigates, analyzes and classifies facts and manifestations demonstrated from the spirit side of life. Spiritualism is a Philosophy because it studies the Laws of Nature both on the seen and unseen sides of life and bases its conclusions upon present observed facts. It accepts statements of observed facts of past ages and conclusions drawn therefrom, when sustained by reason and by results of observed facts of the present day. Spiritualism is a Religion because it strives to understand and to comply with the Physical, Mental and Spiritual Laws of Nature, which are the laws of G-d.

Although I still carry my birthright, Judaism, in my heart, today I consider myself to be a Spiritualist – one who believes in the communication between this and the Spirit World by means of mediumship and who endeavors to mold his or her character and conduct in accordance with the highest teachings derived from such communication.

I am an evidential psychic medium. To me, there’s nothing better than connecting you with your loved ones in the Spirit World (some call it Summerland), or sharing guidance for assistance when you have specific questions about your life path. Through mediumship I am able to help people heal from the loss of a loved one.

How wonderful is the religion, Spiritualism! Spiritualism is all about Truth. The truth that there is an afterlife; the truth that there is a Spirit World; the truth that our loved ones who have passed do come back and communicate with us; the truth that we do have guides that help and guide us, that bring us light and help us to find that inner peace we search for, that help us to make this a better world, to help us to make ourselves a better individual.

Communication with the Spirit World is available to each and every one of us. We have mediums that bring us wonderful messages. And, we can sit in our own homes, in our own space, and meditate, reaching out to our loved ones in the Spirit World and know that they are with us. If we pay close attention, we can even feel their breath and we can hear their words. How healing is that!

We are immortal. How crazy and wonderful is that!?! Our body dies a physical death. But our soul! Our soul moves on to a greater place. A place where we continue learning, where we continue growing and living. Spiritualism gives us - the understanding that our loved ones are still with us, just in a slightly different way. Life is continuous and never ending.

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple: The philosophy is kindness.” ~ Dalai Lama

In honor of my mother’s anniversary of her passing and the anniversary of the birth of Modern Spiritualism, Hydesville Day, I give this writing to you.

I love you mom. I thank you for giving me life and for leading me to all of the right places. I thank you for always believing in me and supporting me in following my own path. I thank you for always allowing me to be ME.
